I hate it when people refer to me as an "online friend". It's kind of insulting actually, like they don't even care enough about me to think of me as an actual friend, but rather just some random guy they know online. I know that's not always the case with the term, but that's just how I interpret it.
Anyone else out their who cares about their FRIENDS can use this stamp as well. :3 Enjoy!
To be honest I only really use the term 'online friend' to explain to people I know or come across offline. My only social life is online and I don't want people thinking otherwise, like I actually physically see people or go out and do things.
I used to be like all like that. But since some time, I've started thinking, if they're any worth it. I mean, those are guys which I probably will never meet and most likely will break any contact with them in a year or two.
I've been there many times. Maybe I'm just a shitty friend, I dunno. But still, I'm starting to trust people I met IRL more.
I carefully differentiate these two from each other.
"On the internet no one know you're a dog." I don't know anything about you people on the internet, except your writing style and a username. (and on dA, a shit ton of drawings as well). When I talk to a person online, can't know if or what they are faking, as I can't read any emotions in facial expressions and voice tones. I can't know what the real intentions, their real thoughts behind their words are. They can write "oh, you're funny! x3" but actually whisper in real life "oh gosh, not this story again. Please stop with this." Everyone who says "Hey, I am 14 and female! " Can be 49, male, married in real life.
I won't completely be sure wether or not the persons at the other side of the screen are really my friends until I have met them in person. But once I met them offline, they aren't just my "online" friends anymore anyway.
I don't see how online friend is an offensive term unless you're some sort of trivial individual. You are online, you are a friend. It's correct terminology. If you take offense to that the only one in the wrong is you for applying negative connotations to the label via your own efforts. If your friend referred to you as an online friend, why would you take offense to that under normal circumstances?
Guy 1: Hey ur a gud online frend 2 me
guy 2: OH SO IM NOT UR ACTUAL FREND WOAHHH U DUM AZZ DIK HED YOU DON CARE ABOUT ME ENUFF TO REMOVE THE ONLINE BCUZ ONLINE IS OBVIOUSLY SOME SORT OF EVIL WORD THAT MEANS I AM BAD
Guy 1: but we're talking online, i only know you online but i still con-
Guy 2: ONLINE IS MY TRIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER.
no, lol, I just meant that you seemed to be yelling. That was the tone conveyed by the wording and the mannerism of the text. haha. Although, now I notice that you just have a really intense way of speaking. Sorry for the confusion.
